Training and CAA qualifications

The Flyer ID theory test is the starting point for aircraft that require it; more demanding flights may need an additional qualification or operational authorisation.

Pass the CAA online theory test. The Flyer ID is currently free and valid for five years; check the CAA service for current terms.

Legacy and class-marked aircraft

Distances and permitted operations depend on weight and the UK class mark. Do not apply an EU C0-C4 assumption to a UK flight.

Operational authorisation

Flights outside the Open Category require the appropriate CAA route, competence and operational authorisation.
